L-Wing is a contemporary masterpiece that pays homage to the agrarian roots of the Hudson Valley surrounding it, a true modernist take on the archetypal farmstead. A New York based talented architect duo, after searching for several years for the perfect piece of land, finally settled on this exceptional property just minutes from Germantown, after which they started on an over three-year journey of realizing their most personal and important project yet. Built to the most exacting standards, L-Wing is a perfect example of the integral relationship between architecture and nature, where the surrounding climate, the landscape of the site, and the rural views critically informed every architectural and design decision. <br />

The eminently warm and peaceful residence seamlessly integrates Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics with the organic architectural principles of the local vernacular of barns and sheds. The lengthy conceptualization process is evident in the way each window frames a 'scene' within the surrounding landscape, the clever positioning of private versus shared spaces that play on the natural movement of light throughout the house, and the sensoriality of the primary materials used - clear cedar tongue and groove siding, interior glulam beams of impressive proportions, white oak flooring, Brazillian-imported leather-finish Quartizite, and the delicate use of polished concrete. <br />

The four-bedroom, five-bath, 4,600 square-foot home sits at the end of a long driveway amid over twelve lush acres, offering complete and total privacy. The expansive living and dining room space is anchored by a fireplace with a custom designed concrete hearth and a fabricated metal chimney in the center. Large floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides flood the room with natural light throughout the day. The impeccably envisioned kitchen, with custom rift oak cabinetry and professional-grade appliances, overlooks the north side of the grounds. Off the kitchen lies the only part of the interior where all four levels are on display in one lens - building up from the lower level, more intimate family room, all the way to the reading nook and walkway at the top, suspended from the immense interior beams.
